Dear People of Today,
I present to you *Dr Theopolis*:
From the banks of the mighty Williamette River comes *Dr.
Theopolis*, Portland's best band. Or at least we think
so....and who better to judge than us? Described by the Oregonian
as "somewhere between the wacky funk of Parliament, the old
school soul of the Ohio Players and modern rap", the Dr.
is quickly overtaking bad weather as Oregon's most infamous commodity.
Delicious? A tasty morsel indeed. What Zaphod Beeblebrox was to
Intergalactic alcoholism Dr. Theopolis is to gettin' down. Thats
just how we roll.
The group consists of 8 Portland musicians whose past or current
projects include The Decemberists (Kill Rock Stars), The
American Girls (Trauma Records), Lael Alderman (Geffen
Records) and Ezra Holbrook (Capitol Records) as well as
Little Sue, Jeremy Wilson, Wyatt Herb, Rollie
Tussing and many more of the northwest's finest. The Dr. has
played events like the Bite of Portland, Hoodfest, North by Northwest
and the Portland Trailblazers halftime shows and has shared a
stage with Fishbone, Calobo, Cherry Poppin' Daddies,
De La Soul, Death Cab For Cutie, The Blind Boys
of Alabama and some naked guy that got tackled by security.
Musical credentials and gratuitous nudity aside, the band has
earned a loyal Northwest following with it's high energy live
performances, kick ass songwriting and massive sex appeal. I swear
I'm not in the band. Yes I am.
The Dr. has released 2 full length albums, "The Voice Of
The Future" (2002) and "Astronomical" (2004). Both
were met with rave reviews including an "A" grade from
the Oregonian and In Music We Trust as well as a nomination for
best hip-hop record from JustPlainFolks.com. With plans for a
new album and extensive touring in 2005, look for the band to
continue its rise toward world domination, fuel conservation and
a Bush-free nation. As a wise man once said....wham and bam then
slam some ham. Thanks for your support.
